At Sobhinder Medical and Dental Care Centre (SMDCC), we offer comprehensive evaluation and diagnosis of sleep disorders, including Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA). Quality sleep is essential for overall physical and mental well-being, and untreated sleep disorders can lead to serious health complications affecting the heart, brain, and other vital organs.
Under the guidance of Dr. Jasmeet Singh, Consultant in Internal Medicine & Critical Care, we assess patients with symptoms of disturbed sleep and recommend appropriate sleep studies to diagnose underlying conditions accurately. Early diagnosis and timely treatment can significantly improve sleep quality, overall health, and quality of life.
What is Sleep Apnea?
Sleep Apnea is a common sleep disorder in which breathing repeatedly stops and starts during sleep due to blockage of the airway or reduced breathing effort. The most common type is Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA), where the airway becomes partially or completely blocked, causing repeated interruptions in breathing throughout the night.
If left untreated, Sleep Apnea can increase the risk of high blood pressure, heart disease, stroke, diabetes, and other serious medical conditions.
Common Symptoms of Sleep Apnea
Loud and persistent snoring
Interrupted breathing during sleep
Excessive daytime sleepiness
Morning headaches
Poor concentration and memory
Restless or disturbed sleep
Waking up gasping or choking
Fatigue and lack of energy
Who is at Risk?
Sleep Apnea can affect anyone but is more commonly seen in individuals who are overweight, have high blood pressure, diabetes, heart disease, enlarged tonsils, or a family history of sleep disorders. Smoking, alcohol consumption, and increasing age can also increase the risk.
Sleep Study Evaluation
A sleep study (Polysomnography) is the most reliable method for diagnosing Sleep Apnea and other sleep-related disorders. It records various body functions while you sleep, including breathing patterns, oxygen levels, heart rate, and sleep stages, allowing accurate diagnosis and appropriate treatment planning.
